Hoch und Deutschmeister Infantry Company

I'm coming up on the end of the 15mm Germans for the time being with this company, my Panzerspah company, and the last of the StuGs. I've been working almost exclusively on them since last year and, to be honest, am rather burnt-out on green-grey uniforms and soft-edge tank camouflage. For the remainder of the year, I plan to do some commission work and make a segue into 15mm Science Fiction with Gruntz.

This company has been in the making since the beginning of the year and actually made an appearance at Adepticon 2013 in ad hoc form. I was finally able to finally finish the last Grenadier platoon this week and here it is....the fully painted Hoch und Deutschmeister Company.

The Hochmeisters are somewhat of an abberation in the German army of the Mid- to Late-War period. Initially, they were an Austrian formation with a proud history going all the way back to the Napoleonic era. As such, they were one of the only formations allowed to fly a non-German flag even after being incorporated into the 44th Grenadier Division in 1943. They served in Italy until 1945, when they were transferred to the Hungarian front (nicely dove-tailing into my FOW Hungarian army).

All the figures are BF, except for the MG nests and PzII bunker which are scratchbuilt with toothpicks and plasticard. This first Grenadier platoon does double-duty in my Schwere Panzer company as the Gepanzerte Pioneers. The Scout platoon will do double-duty with the last of my StuG assault guns as Begliet escort riders (the mounted versions are finished and just awaiting the StuGs' completion).
